Educational Groups

Wichita Organic Garden Club

On the fourth Tuesday of each month from January through October, The Wichita Organic Garden Club meets at Botanica at 7:00 p.m. Invited speakers discuss topics pertinent to organic gardening. In the past, speakers have included Master Gardeners reviewing organic pest control methods, raised bed gardening, composting techniques, designing small or patio gardens, and companion plantings. Speakers have also included a Horticultural Therapist and a member demonstrating milling of organic wheat. Our summer meetings often are tours of members' gardens or gardens with unique features.

For the past several years, the Club has had a booth at the Wichita Garden Show. Our booth for 2008 was certainly one of our best efforts and was featured in the Wichita Eagle. This year's theme was Green Living for Life. Many folks raved about the way we were able to put together a display in line with the theme using recycled materials and garden plants. The Club has also had an educational booth at Tomato Day for the past several years. The next Tomato Day will be held on July 26.

To encourage discussion, the chairs of our Club meeting are normally arranged in a large circle. Each meeting ends with a period of social interaction with mostly organic snacks and in season snacks created with produce from member's organic gardens.
