4th of July, Peabody burger fry, COOL sellout

Aug edition of the Kansas Cattlemen's Association (vol 11, issue # 7)

Doyle Valley Farmers Market of Peabody Ks (Marion County) hosted a (sold out) burger fry in conjunction with their regular saturday morning Farmers Market at Sante Fe Park, in Peabody on July 4th. 75 patriotic citizens enjoyed a great picnic lunch in the park. Also at the park was a local car show! Many visitors were taking in the great weather on a holiday morning, shopping for local produce or just taking in the beauty of classic cars.

Featured at the burger fry was the 'PEABODY'. A 100% grass fed, 1/3 # burger, from Janzen Family Farms, rural Peabody, (processed by Peabody Sausage House), on a Whole Wheat bun from the Little Red Hen Bakery (flour milled at Henry Creek Flour Mill / Janzen Family Farms), topped with Grandma's Mustard from Peabody Sausage House and onion from Gary and Marilyn Jones, Jones Sheep Farm, Peabody.

For a cold drink, Neysa Eberhard and Marilyn Jones brewed up some homemade Root Beer. This went really well either as a drink or rootbeer float. The homemade ice cream, courtesy of Gary Jones and Noel McSweeney.

Cheese was also available for the burgers, from the Jason Wiebe Dairy, Durham Ks (Marion County). In addition, BBQ sauce and Chipolte Ketchup from Big Rick's, Wichita Ks (Segdwick County) rounded out the burger options.

Three batches of really good 'fresh' potato salad were also provided. Darlene Sacks, Debbie McSweeney, and Linda Wetta, all from the Peabody area made their salads with many of the potatoes and other ingredients from Doyle Valley / Peabody gardens. Hector Mosquedo (head griller) and Lisa Brundage provided the grill and homemade baked beans.

Many compliments were received on the quality and taste of the meal. "The burgers were great", commented Pam Lamborn of Peabody. Julie Artz of Diamond Creek Ranch, Potwin Ks said, "My son, Chase and mother-in-law, Joyce and I had so much fun visiting with others around the picnic table in the park, while we ate a wholesome lunch. The delicious all natural burgers and fresh whole wheat buns made my first time in Peabody even more memorable". Mel and Sylvia Epp of Whitewater Ks, praised the "wonderful park location, and the food was made by special people."

Nearly all the food offered was produced and processed in the Peabody Ks / Marion County area. C K C COOL (Country of Origin Label). Country (USA), Kansas, County (Marion), City (Peabody). Yes that's right, Doyle Valley Farmers Market got the majority of the menu down to City (Community) of Origin. Now that's COOL!
