Update on Bill 595 - Concerning labeling of Ag Products
March 7, 2008
Senate Bill 595, the Bill that would not have allowed an agricultural product to be labeled as having a compositional claim that cannot be confirmed through laboratory analysis is dead; Currently, dairymen who do not inject their cattle with rBGH can denote that by labeling the product. If this bill had passed, labels like the one mentioned above would be prohibited because the hormone occurs naturally in cattle and there is currently no laboratory test. KCA is pleased to hear that the bill did not come into law. Thank you to Norm Oeding for his testimony and work on behalf of producers.
